Immortality

01/07/2023

When we think about the "great art", and it's not only the music but art in general we see many examples that came to our days. What is here is the connections of art with another art types, such as music and painting, architecture, literature and more. What's behind is that the evolution. The "great" art would find its source in any another great art, they would touch each other in a way that would create the power of the expression in both ways, internal and external.

This is the same thing with the artist. The master piece of an artist is himself/herself. An artist to come to this point would need ways of understanding that would again find its source in any other artists. I'm not on the saying "great artist would copy" or "add the great parts of another artist" but learning from another artist the way and making this part of making art into the his/her own way. I call it "modeling". We can model any great artist to "learn" but on the way there would be a huge block that will only be removed by the artist himself/herself who made it before. That's the reason yes, there are ways that are opened by others, we can go that way and there are ways got not opened by anybody which would be the hardest. But at the end, there is that immortality such as Jaco Pastorius, Glenn Gould, Chopin, Schoenberg, Bach or any other one.

Again, yes, we can imitate. For example, even in a simple notation we can imitate the hand position of the composer or we can technically imitate a performer to reach that the uniqueness of him/her. But, as I write it, there will be his/her patterns. Yes, this will teach you a great ways of doings and maybe a small part would still belong to you but at the end you would gain let's say %5 of what he/she reached. I often find myself struggle of this main process as well. I do things, there are new elements but how many percentage of it belongs to me? This would probably the hardest question an artist to ask himself/herself. And even though it's not an easy question to answer, I answer myself. I say it loud, "here something great and only %5 of it belongs to me!". What about the whole existence? My existence? Is there any new door I opened for the next generations? Is there any mark that would stay on Earth forever (until the end day)? Any particular technical or intellectual new ways of any doings, in a composition or performing way? Or, I'm the total of what I did model for the years? Is there any originality in me? As a person? As an artist? Is there any challenge against to World? Do I really have a part in the humankind history?

Those questions are harder to answer. But, they will cultivate you in a way you will be having hard times but not that dead ending ones, it will be more likely within your side. The capacity is another one word but has many questions in it. What is your capacity? You get the answer, can you make a difference? Firstly, are you ready to challenge yourself? Because you will shape yourself and if your capacity is not enough, you will spend time with yourself to make it better, as perfect as possible when it comes to music. Because "each note" you produce will have certain results. Here is the part where music becomes the hardest thing besides other art types. You are on the time and the greatness would be hidden into the milliseconds. You have to be relax but also precise. You have to be sharpe but also has the forgiveness for your faults on the way and you will have a chance to fix it all with the last note. What you are holding must be known by you. This is the responsibility. Phrasing and articulation and using the silence would be defining your character.

Immortality will come with the star lights but would also cost you. Once you are aware, you are on. Now, you are free.
